Film 3: Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire, released in 2008 and directed by Danny Boyle, takes place in India. The film revolves around Jamal Malik, an 18-year-old orphan who lives on the streets along with his older brother Salim. All of a sudden, Jamal’s life is turned around when he is chosen to be on a game show called “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” (but an Indian Version of it). Jamal must answer a series of questions and obtains money for each correct answer. When he is only one question away from winning the grand prize of 20 million rupees, he is arrested and accused of cheating, as it seems improbable that an “orphan slum” like himself would have so much knowledge. However, Jamal explains his "story" to the viewer, which accounts for all the events and history throughout his life journey that led him to where is today, and how he obtained all of his wisdom and knowledge that benefited him while playing the game to achieve his success.
